HaHaHa, I AM literally recording my story for Laurie’s Stories in my pajamas. Got to love voice work!

Podcast Recap

I meet some brand new friends, Jessie and Nicole, along with their cute dogs on top of the mountain. I let go of my Inner Fat Chick Identity as I ponder creativity and its place in our world. Thank you to Dawny for posting a 5 star review on USA iTunes. Thanks also to Amazon shoppers and to coffee klatchers who subscribe and donate to the show monthly. Stéfanie from Quebec weighs in with her thoughts on day 113. Two wonderful and touching stories from two new brave BCs – Shea and eM. Mark and I launch another new feature – Laurie’s Stories. I read a story of my own from last week’s wild and wooly writing group that was inspired by the current fad, Cards Against Humanity. Triggered by a comment conversation with BC Dave on one of my status reports, I explore the idea of what it means to find joy.

Laurie's face in foreground with Jessie and Nicole and puppies behind her on the hiking trail

I noticed when I got home, that I accidentally took a selfie that features Nicole and Jessie who I interview in this episode. How’s THAT for lucky? I’d been regretting not asking for a photo.

People on the hiking trail

This shows the unusually crowded trail conditions as I recorded on Memorial Day and people were out enjoying their day off.

Focusrite Solo Audio Interface box with headphones on it next to a pile of books with Laurie's mic perched on top

This little red box is my newest audio equipment. It’s a Focusrite Solo Audio Interface. It turns the signal from the mic into digital files better than going directly to the computer. I used it for recording my story and I think you will hear how it improves my sound. Now, I’m getting a mic stand next week as I hate recording with my mic balanced on stacks of books!

I feel surprisingly cheerful hiking in my rainbow jacket in the windy weather.

Podcast Recap

Frustration is my target today. It’s windy, it’s crowded, and I have to park my good car in the rugged mountain hiking lot! Thank you to BC Dave for his 5-star review on USA iTunes and to tech guy Mikey, from Jetpack, who helped me solve the technical snafus I shared last time. We celebrate the Bravery of new BC, Shannon, who posts her story and asks for our thoughts on the ‘Want Advice?’ page. Dawny steps in to welcome Shannon as well as to give us a funny joke for Foolish Fun. We hear what’s up with Amy from WI, Sue from the UK, Jill from the UK and Stéfanie from Quebec. BC Dave sends his list for things he does that add value to his life and his request for your list. Stéfanie sends her latest Secret Topic of the Day. Why do we do things we know aren’t in our best interests? I sneak in some singing bravery of my own.

Home made sound booth solution with blankets and foam draped everywhere!

Here’s why my list of items to work on to make my life better includes researching a more permanent home sound booth setup. My current procedure of dragging out quilts and foam rubber and draping them over laundry racks every time I need to record inside is getting a bit old.

Podcast Recap

Risking some stormy weather I’m back up the mountain letting go of assuming things need to come easily to be part of my path, i.e., I learn to embrace the slog! Welcome new BC Rosemary from New York. Fionna’s Brave Companion Song is now available as a standalone. A brand new feature where you call in with tips and tricks about food, fun or life. I start this feature with a tip I’ve learned recently from Michelle, a great blogger, who writes as the ‘Fat Nutritionist’. BC Dave goes on the Bravery Report twice. Once for calling the bravery hotline and again for sharing his story on the Who Are the Brave Companions? page. A comment conversation with Happy, Carol from Detroit, Dawny and me about the list of areas where we deal with our perceived eating issues. Audio comments from Dawny celebrating María from Spain’s bravery last show and Nola makes my day by sending in HER version of Foolish Fun.

I asked Fionna to write this song as a way to celebrate our bravery. This version of it was used as part of our big celebration show on Day 100. The “Brave Companions” are the show’s listeners and those who participate by commenting here or who send in audio to be used in the show. BCs are a supportive audience of people all around the world, and luckily for us, Fionna is a BC too! This version was recorded with help from Fionna’s sister, Annie.

Lyrics

The Brave Companion Song
by Fionna Lane

Verse 1:
You and me on the road who knows where
You and me need the wind at our backs
Need a friend just to find some comfort on the journey
In my head it can get so lonely
Look around and I’m not alone
Found someone, found a brave companion
A true friend I can call my own

Chorus:
Sing a song of the Brave Companions
Sing a song of friends new and old
You listen to my hopes and fears
And let me know I’m not alone

Verse 2:
Trying hard just to be authentic
All this fear and it’s hard to be me
Could shut up but hey, that’s pathetic
I wanna live a life that’s free!

(Chorus)

Bridge:
Well hello all you brave companions
Hello all across the world
What we’re going through is hard to do
And we deserve to be heard

(Chorus)

Sing a song of the brave companions
Let you know that I really care
You listen to my hopes and fears
It helps me just to know you’re there.

BTW to save a copy of the song for yourself, please know the download link right below the player seems weird – it comes as part of my podcasting system and not from me – if you just click on it, it DOESN’T download the file – wah??? BUT if you right-click (or Mac folk Control_Click) the download link and chose , Download linked file as…. or Save linked file as… then it downloads the file. Enjoy! – LW
