WHEW! GOT THROUGH CHARACTER VOICE DAY – mixed feelings for me. Worked with David on various ways to develop voice for the character from inside out. For me, a really talented voice actor did the same monolog as I did, and she did it first. Completely different take then mine, and it threw me a bit. But all’s well that ends well. I managed to get through it without a melt down , and I had to COMPLETELY go out of my voice print range and comfort for my dialog as a talking ‘bulldog’ yikes! But I nailed that and surprised myself. Than immediately after arriving home after all day in voice acting land, Mark and I went off to dinner and book club. It was great to see our book club friends (and NOT cook). All in all, a busy and interesting day.

Today

CHILL. Junk TV, minor cleaning, layabout in PJs for much longer than I care to admit…

Body Balance

BB (Body Balance) number 8 Sleep: 8 hours divided into 2 (good first 4, good last 4) Tummy/Gut: gut a bit more full than tummy. Ate dinner REALLY later than usual because of book club, and very hungry after not eating since breakfast due to voice acting. Hungry after 1 hour of waking. Ate part of my left over dinner for breakfast. Enjoyed that! Energy: High Moderate. Mood: Grateful.

BB is my personal criteria, and I don’t think too hard about it. I ask myself at the keyboard, what is my BB? A number between 1-10, including halves, pops into my head. I write it in my post Then I figure out why it is higher or lower and gently make note.

If you are interested these are my measures.

  1. Sleep. Quality and Amount.
  2. Tummy/Gut – If I ate what my body asked for, usually above and below the belly button feel balanced. Ate too much, below the belly button feels more full. Ate too little, the reverse.
  3. Am I hungry within 1 hour of waking? I have found that I feel best if I am hungry within 1 hour of waking. This tends to make my eating day even and not heavy on food in the evening. But I don’t eat if not hungry unless I’m about to ride or hike. I’ve learned I need to fuel these morning activities, or I’ll bonk.
  4. What is my energy level? Subjective, but telling.
  5. A quick look at my mood.

GREAT BIKE RIDE and finished my book club book. Did a little voice practice. Think I have some denial and avoidance, because I still let fear push me away from doing character voice. Weirdly, I don’t think about it at all when I’m reading my own stories, but for class. It feels frozen. Hopefully my session with David will help me push through.

Today

BRAVERY DAY with character voice. ’nuff said. back to work.

ZEN TIME was my watchword yesterday. A wonderful, peaceful walk in Descanso before my therapy appointment. I truly loved my time there watching the birds, hearing the water flow in the irrigation channels and streams. Good moment to remind myself that there is more in nature that connects me to my inner self than there is on junk TV.

Tax appointment over for another year, YAY! Went better than we expected double YAY! It is always good when you owe less than you were planning on.

Today

Bike Ride, Voice Acting practice (Character Voice day is this Saturday – so trying to do the work and remain calm about it). Also trying to get my book read for book club, also on Sat. How does this time just FLY from me….(hmm related to the junk TV habit maybe?????)

RESTED THANK GOODNESS! Yesterday was sooooooo challenging being bug-eyed with exhaustion. Mark and I decided to forgo bike riding, because of my ‘falling down’ danger – even on the dedicated bike path. So I spent the day trying to take a nap so I could safely drive and go to last night’s writing group. Boy, I don’t know about you, but for ME, when I reach that level of insomniac exhaustion, the adrenaline kicks in and I just cannot sleep. Tried everything, watched BORING TV. Put on my sleep mask and counted blessings (good news I have a TON of blessings – sadly, sleep in the day, not being one of them). Meditated. Listened to hypnotic sleep tapes. Finally, I just let it ride and figured writing group was just not meant to be. I was disappointed, because I really wanted to go.

But GUESS WHAT? Mark to the rescue! Not only did he drive moi to the group, he was BRAVE and participated by writing his OWN story – and it was darn good. He impressed me with his willingness to do something out of his comfort zone and to hang out with people he hadn’t met before. What’s even MORE impressive to me, is that Mark may go back – not to rescue me, but because he had fun! Wow. We should never assume about other people, OR ourselves. Giving a try is great. It doesn’t always work out that a new activity or place resonates with us, but if we NEVER try doing something outside of our comforting boxes, we may be missing out a treasure trove of experience and fulfilling adventure.

Today

TAXMAN COMETH! We have to find our tax receipts and go visit with our friendly accountant this evening. It’s always stressful corralling all of these, but we’ve done pretty well this year tossing them into one folder. Also, I’ll take a nice walk around Descanso Gardens before my therapy appointment and seeing the blooms and hearing the birds is always a great way to start the day.

Hope your day is filled bravery (or at least comforting Zen)

I DID IT! Got the 100th episode 1 year anniversary show recorded AND published on the day of.

Laurie smiling in the sun

Same selfie as I used for show 100 but I’m uploading the full size version as I like this photo a lot 🙂

My hike was awesome yesterday and I had a blast recording the intros and outros I wrote Sunday and Monday as I edited all of the special audio bits. The mountain always puts me in that Zen creative mood as well. Both the ‘Letting go’ segment and my response to Stéfanie’s Secret Topic of the day were all one take each, no edits, and purely off the top of my head. Not bad! (BTW, I really DON’T listen to Stéfanie’s question beforehand. I download the audio file from email onto my phone’s hard drive, stopping it at hello, then muting my phone. I do this because my phone service is very iffy on the mountain). Then after I record the open, that I’m GOING to listen to Stéfanie’s question, I finally unmute my phone and hear it for the first time (you hear that same audio edited into the show at that same place) and then I immediately start talking – no pause, no thought, directly from Stéfanie’s lips to my ears and out my mouth! I’m always fascinated to listen during the editing process to find out what I say to Stéfanie as it’s kind of like automatic writing. It just flows from my heart.

Flowers

PS, Thanks Mon Amie for the wonderful surprise! xoxoxoxox

In fact, I really, really enjoy this process. Hmmmm, maybe, If I ever take the show on the road, that would be fun to have audience Q and A in this manner? I think it is one of my strengths and hallmarks – being able to speak off the top of my head about eating, feelings, bravery and life. Would you like to come hear a bravery tour? Just pondering now. I think it would be fun to come walk and chat together and have a picnic then maybe tell a little of my story and have Q and A and let people tell some of their stories. Hmmm, what would I call an event like this?

Oh well, any of you event planners? Need a wacky motivational speaker for your corporate meeting? I’m not the same ole’ same ole’ – so keep me in mind. BTW, I’ve spoken at conferences and meetings before, so I’m not totally unprepared, just never considered that maybe, just maybe, I am my own best asset, Maybe my take on bravery could benefit more than just people with food issues….hmmmmm….mind churning.

Today

Junk TV this AM, I am SOOOOOoooo tired…..Zzzzzzzzzzz. Then Mark and I plan to bike the river. And if I am awake enough to drive, off to the Writers’ Group. Can’t wait to see what comes out of my loopy brain today!

Hope your day is great and filled with adventure and bravery. I also hope you enjoy listening to day 100 as much as I enjoyed making it.
