Yesterday

Quick update: Yesterday I had fun walking around my local park and giving Alen Standish our 3rd interview. He also recorded a bit for MY next episode. Yay! Always fun to check in with Alen.

I’m getting ready to walk around the park for my 3rd interview with Alen Standish

Then I practiced more voice acting exercises and continued to try and refine how we will configure the guest room into a viable recording space.

Trying out my new pop filter with the mic in my new boom stand. The filter helps keep spit off the mic and the explosive sounds like P from sounding harsh in the recordings.

Today

Going to the first of the next series of animation and video game voice classes taught by my coach, David Babich. I’m much less nervous than last time and excited to keep working on the skills needed for this kick-ass, fun genre of voice work.

It’s getting so trying new things is much less devastating to me. The risks ARE getting easier to take, and the rewards in the quality of my life are huge.

Also working on some bits I want to write and record for the Coffee Klatchers and also for the regular newsletter subscribers. I have been SO TARDY in this, but I am really grateful and am trying to come up with some fun stuff.

Have a great day BCs!

Yesterday

Busy, busy day. Mark and I got our butts BACK on the bike and rode along the river in the morning. Prior, I had put together my mic stand and done some practice. Then last night a RECORD number of writers came to the writers’ group. Very interesting to hear all of the different stories and the unique voice each of us has as writers.

We’re smiling because WE DID IT! Back on the bike for 10 miles with a bit of a head and side wind. Look out Spring Chickens, we’re coming for you!

Today

Off to therapy and I may or may not be motivated to go for a walk at Descanso Gardens after. I think I may, I haven’t done a photo safari for a while on IG and this might be a fun thing to do. I’m LaurieDreamWeaver there btw.

Have a great day BCs!

Yesterday

Wow! It’s been awhile since I posted my status report. I plead busyness AND some general sneaky lassitude. Monday’s hike and record, wiped me totally out. Due to weather and scheduling, I hadn’t been taking my daily walk for over a week, and man oh man, THAT hike was a killer diller! So yesterday, I lazed around before my singing lesson. I have really been struggling with my singing lately, as I have gotten better enough that I KNOW more things to be upset by when I don’t do them. And singing is art as well as technical, and your body doesn’t always cooperate. It’s like trying to be a ballerina wearing galoshes! Still onward. All singing practice helps my voice acting. I’m not convinced I will ever be a singer, as in, I on purpose sing for an audience, but right now, I’m struggling to sing even for myself. I’m so frustrated, and can’t seem to make the break through I need. But now’s the time to cut myself slack and just do it. With practice, it will come. I will just have to be frustrated until I’m not. That’s my process and Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Microphone stand in the family room

Hooray, I just got my mic stand! Bit by bit my home recording space is happening. No more books piled on TV trays to balance my microphones!

Today

Tiger the orange cat on Laurie's lap

Tiger shows his love for MY wonderous Thunder Thighs!

My wonderful furry baby climbed IMMEDIATELY onto my lap while I was drinking my morning coffee. He purred and snuggled and was just
SO GOSH DARN GLAD to see me, it warmed my heart and inspired me to enjoy my body’s ability to feel and be and to be a conduit for sharing cat-love in the morning.

Later on, Mark and I will get back on the bike again. It has been a few weeks, so we have to build up our bike butts and endurance once more. Sometimes it feels like our lives are constant starting over. We need to clean the house again, we need to get back to regular exercise, we need to get back to our somewhat usual schedules. But that’s life, isn’t it? Everyday we make a choice of what’s most important that day. And the piper sometimes has to be paid. But overall, I think I’m happy, so I’m not too sorry to be back here again. We’ll get our bike bodies back soon enough, if we keep on keeping on

Have a great day BCs!

Yesterday

Man oh man! Intensive voice acting class. Four hours of finding your best character types in monologues in the morning, short lunch, four hours with scene partners into the evening, then another hour of discussion after. LONG day. Tough, but productive. I’m moving right along finding out what’s in MY voice that I can develop to be commercially viable. It is a long road, as are most things worth doing, but exciting. I was so happy I didn’t take in one bit of criticism as personal or as a lack in myself, but was able to translate it all into making my performance better. And I did! My takes improved every time with the direction and I am glad I went. It was very challenging for me. but BCs, No risk, no soar!

Roof of department store under construction

Good thing I didn’t spend much time in my room. THIS construction of a new department store is all the view I have.

Today

Right now still relaxing in my hotel drinking their free coffee. I’m SO tired, I may forgo the pool this time. But I may not. I’ll see how I feel after the coffee kicks in.

Hotel room desk with Laurie's computer and Starbucks coffee cup nearby

Here’s my Monday morning so far, free coffee, fooling with the computer, and writing this VERY status report. Ohhh worlds within worlds….spooky!

Then I’m hoping to write the next show, either here before home, or once I get home, and weather permitting, hike and record tomorrow. Will be happy to see Mark and kitties, but it was kind of fun to be out doing “my thing” solo. Made me feel strong in my identity as Laurie doing what it takes, and proud of myself for dealing with all that came my way.

Have a great day BCs!

Yesterday

Despite driving Red Baby to Burbank in the thunder storm, I had a great session with my voice acting coach, David Babich. I’m starting to feel some real progress in my ability. We also worked in the booth, and from the recordings I can HEAR the improvement in the vocal quality itself – let alone the acting, which has also improved. I’m excited to keep on working. (And Red Baby is fine and well from being parked in the mountain AND from being driven all week in inclement weather – also, glad to say the convertible top does NOT leak. Not too many chances to try that out in SoCal.)

Today

Gracie the tabby cat in Laurie's arms

Tiger’s mom, Gracie, is in an unusually cuddly mood. So I take advantage to snap her photo for today’s status. She is SO pretty, and Sooooo shy. Too bad or I’d get her a cat agent to help supplement our income.

Went for a walk down to the park in my hiking boots as the weather is wonky and there is mud from yesterday’s storm. Getting ready to do my singing practice and then some laundry. Going away for a weekend of voice acting study. It should be fun, and I think Mark will enjoy some alone time after all of the activities lately.
