Yesterday

Man oh man, what a LONG, but fulfilling day. First of all, I had my body balance back after all of the days following the epic binge I described in Day 106. I was SO happy I posted selfies on IG JUST for the sheer happiness of how I felt.

And many people commented on the selfies or via email or on this blog, that I looked SO good, so pretty, Stéfanie even said I looked “perfect”. Wah? I STILL weigh the same as before. I’m up a little, but I FEEL great. I FEEL confident. I LIKE myself. So my selfies reflect that. This is a BIG, BIG lesson for me. What we feel and what we TELL ourselves is a huge part of how we present to the world and how the world responds.

So I’m going to BE a person who values her body every day, no matter WHAT it weighs.

Next, I wrote Day 108 yesterday morning (about 3 hours), I hiked in the SUN and WIND up the mountain to record the show (3 hours) had dinner and then EDITED the audio file, wrote the show notes and PUBLISHED the sucker. (4.5 hours) Wow, that was a complex show to do all in one day! But I did it as my singing teacher was ill and had to cancel, and I figured it would be a great thing to have a full day for what’s next on my Zen list…

Today

CRAP! It is “Clean out the junky guest bedroom including sorting BOXES of papers” Day! Yikes! Of all the hated and dreaded cleaning in the world, I fear you most of all.

Mark said last night, “Are you ACTUALLY going to clean your room tomorrow?” We call the guest room MY room because:

  1. I keep my clothes in there. Weird huh?
  2. The guest room furniture was my grandparents’ furniture and I’ve had it since I was 19
  3. I’m the one who pretty much throws any and all crap into it when I don’t want to deal with something

Sigh.

Mark also said, “Man are you going to feel BETTER once THAT is done.”

Smart ass!

We who are about to clean this horrible pile of dusty disordered crap salute you! It’s a far far better thing we clean than we’ve EVER cleaned before…

xoxoxoxoxo

Later….as the sun set behind the storm tossed mountains….
HOORAY!

How about you?

Yesterday

DID make it to therapy, feeling good about progress there. Therapist IMPRESSED I was able to stop cleaning mid-project and finish the next day. So I practiced MORE and didn’t do squat for the rest of the day. (Actually feel MUCH better today, my energy was wiped).

I also did make it to Trader Joes where I got a small bunch of daffodils to place on my now clean table in celebration of spring (cleaning). Then I made a great lunch out leftover brown rice and kale. Turned them into a relish fried rice combo.

After that, I stretched out on the couch “to rest” and enjoyed a day of mostly watching junk TV and documentaries. I also saw the movie Chef on Netflix which I really enjoyed.

Today

After this, going to tackle the living room and then the REALLY HARD stuff. Getting rid of more books, DVDs and sentimental Tchotchkes from off and in my whoppin’ big computer hutch. Sigh. Will be a great day to see if I can let go, feel feelings, and NOT head for chips.

Yesterday

Long slog cleaning – but I got the family room, hall and kitchen vacuumed, washed, dusted and otherwise made NOT mortifying. Of course, I still have SEVERAL other rooms to tackle in the next week or so. Sigh, it IS like going on a diet after weeks and weeks of bingeing. A Cleaning diet. BLECH. And I love that JUST as much. Here’s an Instagram Peek at my progress yesterday:

Props to Mark, he, without being nagged, asked or otherwise cajoled, has been tackling his areas – namely cat abode, stairway carpet, some bathrooms (bless you honey, you ROCK!),

This totally exhausted me. Wow, I didn’t do half of what I used to when cleaning, and it kicked my BUTT! I must be out of cleaning shape. How can I hike up the mountain several times per week, ride my bike UPHILL and be ready for action, yet two hours hauling a vacuum around knocked me silly?! What’s up with that?

I ALMOST weaseled out of writing group, but since I didn’t want to be a two week in a row weasel, having missed out last week due binge related distress, strapped on my bravery and fortitude and went.

Fun! But I ALSO had a flare up of tendonitis in my right hand (caused by said cleaning perhaps?) which made it darn near impossible to write long hand in my notebook. Did my best however, and still came up with a very, very short story.

Today

Slept in, Hooray! Off to therapy and some shopping at Trader Joe’s. Then the living room is next on the cleaning list. Hoping to get it done much more quickly as it is a smaller space than yesterday, and I missed out on yesterday’s planned voice practice. If I have to pick one today, it will be practice, but I hate to lose my cleaning momentum. SO easy to fall back in the “I’ll start cleaning tomorrow” rut. Then I’ll start writing the next show. Many new BCs to greet, which is exciting. Hey guys, could use some AUDIO here. hint hint. Why not call or talk about YOUR cleaning feelings. Does it make you feel better? Are you a cleaning avoider like moi? Any other cleaning tales or thoughts? Go ahead and ‘Come Clean” Hahahaha. Sorry, I’m punny without my first coffee. Have a great day BCs!

Sparkling clean set mahogany table

I’m proud I can use my table again for dining! It’s so easy to cover up beauty with piles of junk….hmmmm….lesson?

Yesterday

No Fooling, I actually got off my butt and began cleaning! Hooray! I was still overwhelmed and depressed by the sheer amount of work my former lassitude had plunked onto my cleaning plate, but decided to “go in the moment” and just focus one task at a time for a set period of time vs. forcing myself to complete an entire room, or project to my usual expectations.

It worked! (hmm, intuitive house cleaning?)

I sorted and filed through all of the papers on the table, paid the bills, put away the gear, washed all of the placemats and linens, polished the heck out of the table and ended up with one spot of shining serenity among the chaos.

I also moved other furniture out of the way, vacuumed the area rugs and otherwise prepared to clean the downstairs tile floors. But then my time and energy limit was reached, so I ALLOWED myself to stop mid-task and finish it today. Wow!

What a change!

Today

I’m proud that I made progress, and instead of feeling exhausted I feel energized. You release a TON of physic garbage when you declutter and clean your space. So onward today. Same approach, little by little, task by task for a certain amount of time, then I will allow myself to be satisfied and move on to other interests in my life with no guilt.

Writing group tonight, need to save energy. Also want to practice singing and voice acting.

Wow, yesterday I surprised myself! I got up the mountain, recorded a bonus episode, AND went to singing lessons. I was expecting said singing lesson to suck eggs, as I try usually NOT to mix mountain allergens NOR using my voice in harsh ways prior to singing lessons. However, I wanted to get the bonus episode in yesterday because it fit into my media allowance for March (saving $$$ here).

I have to say there’s been a dip in the Coffee Klatch participation and Amazon shopping, so I need to watch my podcast budget a bit more closely. But that’s all a part of the ups and downs that come with doing this show. I’m STILL amazed I’m still here and the show is growing slowly as new BCs discover me and go through the show from day 1.

It is pretty strange to think of my past self preserved in media files for all time (or for as least as long as I pay the media fees to keep them live). The immediacy of my recording each day means that to new BCs listening to my past, THAT Laurie is alive and kicking or celebrating or whining as that episode dictates.

Sometimes I wonder if past Laurie would recognize future Laurie?

For example, back to singing lesson, I NAILED it! My voice was stronger, more powerful and had a few more notes of range both on the top AND bottom – despite sinus issues from allergies. Wow, I AM getting better. I’m also working to sing with an accompaniment Suz sent me of my song, Whistle Down the Wind. When she first sent it, months ago, I couldn’t sing to it at all. I needed to be tied to my own piano picking in order to hit the notes. Now I only stick at one place, and if I practice a bit, I think I will get it. It is REALLY fun to have this full piano accompaniment to sing with and I so appreciate Suz for helping to fill my life with music!

Today

Well, if you read my funny house disaster experience, then you can guess what’s on TODAY’s agenda. Yep, my exercise today will be doing what I call, “The BIG downstairs cleaning”. This is all that is required to move the furniture, clean the SH*T out of the tile floors, dust, vacuum the dang designer drapes that LOOK nice but can’t be washed like my preferred cheap-ass drapes in the front room, and other tortures that will make me feel 100,000,000 times better once accomplished.

First step, I need to declutter and wash my dining room table. Hmmm, easier to eat mindfully when not staring at piles of bills and bike helmets…

Wish me luck…
