Resource of the day
How to achieve your dreams by MatYooProductions, a wonderful little simple animation with a large impact.Highly recommended!
Laurie, it was great – and not just because my song was in it! Truly, this episode was such a joy to listen to. How marvelous it must be to reflect upon a year of challenging yourself by going after things you have always wanted. I loved the interviews with your teachers and coaches. It is very encouraging to hear that not one of them had a straight path to success, and that the one thing in common for all of them is they all had a PASSION for what they wanted to do, and they followed that passion and look! It led to careers doing work they really love. That’s what I’m in the market for. Just imagine where we’ll be another year from now if we keep pushing ourselves to follow our dreams. Wow. I wanted to tell Mark that I love hearing his voice on the show! It’s so full of personality. And your story – the one from the writing group – that was great! You have such a gifted imagination. Bravery Saturday! That really made me smile. And all the “I’m brave” messages…I’m so glad to be a part of this community.
I’m so glad you liked it Fionna. How does it feel to be a commissioned song writer with a wonderful song out there for people to appreciate? I hope it thrills you as much as it thrills me to have it. I love how it turned out with the bravery stories, and I loved this episode. I’m glad it turned out more about the future and how we can move forward vs. being a clip show of the past. I loved that so many BCs sent in things that allowed me to tell stories about our relationships. It was a really fun show to work on. I was also very surprised that all of my teachers and coaches were very excited to be part of the show. I always kind of secretly felt around them, like, ‘oh I just have a podcast’, and they did such IMPORTANT kind of projects and things. Their attitude was that they were honored to be included with us. What a lesson. We shouldn’t judge ourselves (and I mean me as chief judger) so lowly, or feel less than. The world may not look so down on us as we imagine in our negative minds (again me raising hand here). It is possible…that people can be positive and helpful and wish the best for us. Wow, that is a 100% turn around for me. What a miracle. Thanks again for working so hard on the song, and thanks too for sending in your bravery. I think you will make an AWESOME teacher xoxoxoxo
PS, I’m so glad you said you liked hearing Mark. He is VERY self conscious of how he sounds, and never believes me when I tell him you guys LIKE to hear him.
What a wonderfully awesome way to review and celebrate the past year in all its ups and downs. So much content! Laurie, you did a great job putting it all together. There were many things that stuck out to me in the podcast.
One was that you realized that even with the support of a wonderful group of BCer’s online to support you in the virtual world, it was very important for you to get the help you needed right there in your real world, too. In the past I think I’ve kind of thought my online friends were my most valuable asset. But eventually I realized you can’t run away from what you have to deal with every day by spending hours on the computer. It’ll catch up with you. As you mentioned, you were smart to seek out someone closer to home who could give you the intensive help you needed.
I really appreciated your singing teacher Viki’s comments about getting out of your own way. I don’t think I’d ever actually thought about that. Going to have to spend some time reflecting on where I do that in my life.
It was so much fun to listen to your interviews with all your teachers and the writing group. I loved your honesty about how hard it is sometimes to take the criticism. I think you’re a perfect example of what can happen when we remember we never stop being students. As long as we can focus on learning being what we’re about, that criticism becomes more productive.
It was fun, too, to be able to put voices with names. It was kind of awesome to realize what a global community we’ve become here.
And Fiona’s song! OMG! That was just beautiful and I will definitely be downloading it for those times when I need to remember I am NOT alone on this journey. It was really cool to hear all the comments you worked into it. Global family indeed! I especially appreciated Sandy’s brave goal of wanting to be a better version of herself. “Them there are words to live by, pardners.”
Congratulations again on your double 100. It was fun to listen to and made me feel like part of one big, happy family. Yeah, we all have our struggles, but there’s something so great about knowing others have your back. Big hugs to you, Laurie, Mark, and ALL the BCer’s out there!
Thank YOU Cheryl for your participation. It was your recap that gave me the idea to use the greetings of the BCs as a way to tell THEIR story of how their relationships shaped the show (and me) and once I had that idea, it was much easier to figure out the puzzle that was show 100. You can probably relate to this: Bonus episodes are writing exercises in a journal, Regular shows are edited short stories sent out to agents, Show 100 was F’ing WAR and PEACE! LOL 🙂 It was a challenge and so much fun. I’m glad this level of extravaganza is but once a year (so far). This one made the Holiday show look like middle vs grad school. But despite my nitpicks (on myself) once I heard the finished product, I was proud of it and of all of you. I’m glad I gave myself the deadline of the anniversary, because I could literally have fiddled this one to death for YEARS! Much love and hugs to you. xoxoxoxoxox
Laurie!
Bravo bravo, the hundredth episode was fantastic! Your hard work paid off…wonderful! It popped up on fb AND I couldn’t wait to get home and settled in to listen! I heard all the people, I’ve gotten to know…everything came together beautifully. Laurie you have a natural gift and you’re using it! Congratulations Laurie and all the BC’s! It’s a family, a global family knitted together this past year. My head was spinning connecting all the BC’s, your teachers, hearing Mark (finally) again & Fiona’s BC song…awesome! I’ll follow your lead Cheryl and save this episode so when I am down, I’ll listen and this will give me a big warm smile knowing that you all “get it”! A shout out for Mark…I enjoy your part, when you are corralled & join in! Just makes my day when you give your opinions, I don’t know why but, it makes it so real so, keep it up! We all need each other!
Patt
Thank you, thank you, thank YOU Patt! I’m so glad you participated in this epic show. I really enjoyed making this one and it was a marvel to realize during its production, just how far we HAVE ALL COME this last year. I’m loving the direction of the show right now, and hoping the participation will increase with time and momentum. I still like thinking on feelings, but I’m really passionate about people sharing their bravery and about cultivating bravery in my own life. Thanks too for mentioning Mark. He poo poos such comments, but I can see the twinkle in his eye. xoxoxoxoxoxo
That was one awesome show! Everyone’s contribution was just fantastic. AND all the hard work you have invested in that show… How wonderful 🙂 Congratulations, everyone! 🙂
Stéfanie 🙂
Merci Mon Amie xoxoxox I hope you liked your Secret Topic Answer! It did make me laugh as I record the show in order, so this answer came at the end of my long day. I really did laugh for quite some moments, as I was expecting some “fluff” (easy) thing. But when I was listening to the show in final edit, I realized this was one of my favorite answers to your topics, and it taught me a lot about myself. Thanks too for being part of the Brave Companions Song. You’ve been such a big part of this show, through your support, your participation and your awesome secret topics, I was very glad you were in the 100th show edition of the song. xoxoxoxoxo
Well done for a marvelous show. It was great to hear about your bravery day and your teachers think so highly of you, and finding out about their journeys was interesting. It was lovely to hear from all the BC’s and Fionna’s song is beautiful. Suz’s piece made me smile – so talented, both of you!
Well done YOU for being part of it Sue. I was so glad to have you in the show as you were a major part of keeping the show going back in the day. You and Cheryl really were my main support team for quite awhile. And now, even though many more BCs have stepped up to take active roles in posting, participating, commenting etc. Without you two supporting me and the show when you did, I may well have given up. So take a moment to enjoy how the show has grown, because is was partly due to you taking a risk and supporting it. I’m sending good health and good thought vibes across the pond. I know you have much on your plate right now, so no worries. Post when you can, send your lovely voice when you can. But in the meantime, please be assured, I do know how much you care about me and about us – and WE care about you! xoxoxoxoxox
This show was so heartwarming and inspiring. I just love to hear people’s stories about their lives and how they got where they are now, and what it was like getting there.
And I LOVED hearing all the voices of the BCs. So lovely, and makes them feel closer, and like we really are an understanding and friendly group.
Thanks and wowza to Fionna for her wonderful song. So awesome! And those lyrics really nailed who we are, I think. What a great unifying song. 🙂
Laurie, you stinkpot, you surprised me all right! Hahaha. I’m gonna surprise Suz. Oh, no, I’m not. Oh, yes I am! You are so funny. Thank you for singing that! If you would like a newer version with an intro, or a little faster, or in a different key, just let me know! You’re getting better and better! Sorry I haven’t sent you Whistle Down the Wind yet. It has a key change partway through and goes even higher!
I’m doing a little better in the past couple days. I did go to the doc and had some bloodwork done, and a sampler pack of a new medicine. Found out my thyroid was off, so that’s probably part of it. Fingers crossed that things improve.
Thinking of you as you continue on your journey past this major marker along the trail.
Muchas smoochas!
Suzanne
Oh Suzanne, I LOVED surprising you. (I did wish my voice was in top shape, but so it goes). If you would enjoy sending me a new version of my song with an intro, that would be fun. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure what key it is in, or what would make it easier. I think I wrote my dang song in the middle part of my voice where it breaks – hmmm. But I really don’t know what I’m talking about. Winter Wonderland that I did at Christmas was easy, but I think my teacher picked it because it was written where I can easily sing. I also LOVED your Favorite Things on piano. You are so talented, you could send me recording after recording, and I’m make an album for myself to listen to. You have such an artistic feel for the keys, it is like you are singing through the piano. Your expression is awesome. Your playing makes me want to dance. xoxoxoxo
I’m glad you discovered about your thyroid, because that can certainly affect your mood and your energy. Hugs and good health vibes flying your way.xoxoxoxo
Thank you for the lovely compliments. It means so much to me, I can’t even explain how much. What you said reminded me of what a foreign exchange student we had once said to me. “When you play the piano, I can hear your soul.” What you said amounts to the same thing, and to me that is the highest compliment! I often feel so far behind in where I would like to be with the piano, but when I get a compliment like that, it makes me feel hopeful, it makes me feel real, and makes me want to practice and learn more. So thank you a million times for the kind words!
I hope I can accompany you long-distance again. 🙂 we could do a Skype rehearsal! Haha.
You are SO welcome! I meant it, you are very talented musically. It would be fun to try Skype for singing – I’ll have to get on my technical difficulties to see if I can get them ironed out. (though may take a while as I am traveling and busy the next few weeks or month through my birthday). xoxoxoxox
Ooh! I didn’t know you’d be traveling. Hope you’re having a great time and that you get your technical problems fixed soon.
Your birthday is coming up! When was that again, March 6?
I’m sending you a song via email in a couple minutes. 🙂
Hi Suz, thanks for the beautiful version of Whistle Down the Wind. Once we’re back home, I’m going to see if I can sing to it. It is so pretty! Yes, I’ll be going home to Washington for a bit, and then Mark and will be taking off for my birthday trip (March 9 is my birthday). In between will be voice acting classes, writing and other projects, so my calendar is pretty full right now. 🙂
Happy belated birthday to your podcast, and happy early birthday to you, Laurie! I haven’t posted for months but I am still listining and I LOVE hearing you and the BCs. You all are such brave, wonderful people that I wish I could meet someday. Thank you for all of your work! You’ve gotten me through some hard times and you don’t even know it. I am so proud of you for just being you 🙂 Here’s to the next 100!!!!
Hey there Brave Rhode Island Companion Extraordinaire! Sooo glad to see you again my friend! Thanks for your good wishes and it made my day hear from you. Glad the show helped with the hard times, that makes me feel much better about all the craziness and ups and downs I’ve talked about. I must say this year has been interesting, to say the least. All of the new activities, feelings, new ways of coping. Overwhelming at times to see the changes all at once as I did in show 100. But I’m proud of myself too. I’ve stuck to my premise of sharing it all, good and bad, and I don’t feel as ashamed of some of the shows as I thought I might after reviewing them again. I feel compassion and that, is one of the key factors I think to lasting change. Compassion for ourselves and for others. Thanks again for taking the time to post. That really made me feel good and would love to hear more about your own journey as you feel comfortable. oxoxoxoxoxox
I just found your podcast. I am so happy that you made this. I don’t go to meetings but feel this down to earth journal will help me on my journey on getting back on track and to stop my binging and over eating. this is a hard thing to stop and not everyone understands so it’s nice to have found someone to give advice and tips that will help me.
Hi Shelly, Welcome! I’m so glad you found us. This is a very supportive, creative and fun bunch! I appreciate your stopping by and I look forward to learning more about your story and hearing your thoughts. xoxoxox
